BECKET OUTDOOR CENTER
We are fortunate this year to again partner with the Four Winds Nature Institute and the Becket Outdoor Center to offer our children a unique, place-based environmental science program. This year’s theme is Cycles In Nature, and students will travel by bus to the Becket Outdoor Center to enrich their science experience and support the classroom learning. Please send in a lunch and snack with your child on the day he or she is scheduled to attend (see above dates). We also ask that the children dress appropriately for the weather as much of the learning will take place outdoors.
TRANSPORTATION
In an effort to keep all of our children safe, I’d like to reiterate that we need a note from a parent or guardian to change regular dismissal procedure for any child (i.e., from a bus rider to a pick up). Preferably a note comes in the morning of the change, but we request if you need to notify us by phone, please do so before noon.
In addition, Dufour, our District transportation provider, has outlined how to handle bus changes:
- Please do not communicate bus changes for your child directly to the driver. Any changes must be communicated to the building principal. Please provide 24 hours notice absent an emergency.
- If you have a bus change request for a half day please communicate that with as much notice as possible as these are dates with high amounts of change requests and we want to ensure student safety.
- Please make sure a familiar adult is at the bus stop for students in grades K-2. Students in grades K-2 who indicate they do not have someone they can walk home with will be brought back to school.
- If your child is returned to school by the bus driver, please come to the school and come into the office to get your child. The bus driver will not be able to release your child to you directly. That will be done by school staff.
- If you have a concern with the busing or driver, please call the school and we will address the concern and facilitate any conversations with the staff at Dufour. Please avoid engaging in lengthy conversations with the drivers at the stops as their focus needs to remain on the safety of the students they are transporting.
Thank you.
